Inspired by the Chinese proverb "Water overflows when full; the moon wanes when whole", Eight Tenths Garden embodies the Taoist principle of restraint — leaving 20% "unfilled" to harmonize heritage and modernity, nature and urbanity.
Historical Context:
Originally a 1930s private garden in the Jiangnan tradition, the site had languished for decades. Its revival reinterprets classical Chinese garden principles — asymmetry, borrowed scenery (JieJing), and seasonal contemplation — through contemporary engineering and minimalist design.
